COUMADIN (WARFARIN)PATIENTS:

  1. Should schedule an appointment for consultation first then they may be asked to schedule an appointment for a PT/INR at their coumadin clinic two days prior to the procedure.
  2. They should give my business card to the clinic to FAX results (that day) to me. When results come in I am notified immediately.
  3. The patient will then be called by staff relaying the message from me whether to continue coumadin or not. Note: I do not routinely stop coumadin and I never completely reverse anticoagulation. Patients are usually treated with INR’s between 2.0 and 2.5.

IV SEDATION PATIENTS

  1. The patient must have nothing to eat or drink (NPO) for 6 hours.
  2. The patient must have an escort.

INFECTION:

  1. Amoxicillin, Clindamycin, etc.
  2. Chorhexidine Rinse

RECURRENT HSV: (COLD SORES)

  1. Penciclovir or zovirax cream
  2. Valtrex tabs

BURNING MOUTH/ MUCOCITIS:

  1. Decadron Elixir
  2. Nystatin Oral Solution
  3. Vitamin B Complex
  4. Magic Mouth Rinse

BELL’S PALSY TREATMENT:

  1. Artificial Tears
  2. Vitamin B complex
  3. Valtrex (valacyclovir) Z

SINUS EXPOSURE/SINUS PRECAUTIONS:

  1. Give sinus precaution sheet
  2. If small exposure in deep socket, protect the blood clot, it will heal.
  3. If large exposure in shallow socket refer for evaluation, this may need a buccal fat pad flap.
