Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical Orthodontics includes:

• Exposure and bracketing of an impacted tooth to be brought into its normal position orthodontically, most often canines.
• SFOT – “Surgically Facilitated Orthodontic Treatment” is making cuts partially into the bone around the teeth so they can move farther and faster orthodontically.
• SARPE – “Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion” is used to widen the upper jaw when non-surgical rapid palatal expanders cannot.
• MSE – “Maxillary Skeletal Expanders” are anchored to the bone to facilitate rapid palatal expansion.
• DOME Procedure – “Distraction Osteogenesis Maxillary Expansion” is similar to SFOT, SARPE with MSE to treat high arched palates and poor airways such as OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).
• TADs – “Temporary Anchorage Devices” are titanium screws or plates with screws used to anchor to the bone so orthodontic forces can be applied in a direction that is normally not possible in conventional orthodontics or to move teeth faster.
